Suzanne

My name is Suzanne and I work as a senior support worker at a Voyage service called Hall Farm in South Yorkshire. Our service supports people with learning disabilities and accompanying challenging behaviour.

Until ten years ago, I had never worked in care, but my brother has learning disabilities and I thought I could bring that experience to my working life. I started working part time at Hall Farm in 2002 and was later offered a full time position and haven’t looked back since.

In the years I have been with the company I have received an excellent training package. I have completed my NVQ in social care and am currently undertaking my NVQ 3; both these qualifications have been funded by Voyage.

I had been with the company for a number of years when I decided to apply for the senior support worker position. I had been acting up as senior and my manager suggested I apply for the job permanently. This is a completely different role to that of support worker, but one which I felt I could do well.

I have been a senior support worker for nearly two years now and I absolutely love my job. Voyage have given me the skills and training opportunities I needed to further my career, such as Mental Capacity training and NCI courses. Our service was recently awarded an Excellent star rating by CQC. This was down to the hard work and dedication of our staff team and manager.

In the future I would love to progress to a deputy manager position and who knows, one day I may run my own service. All this would not have been possible without Voyage, who have helped me further my career and reach my full potential. I would recommend a career with Voyage to anyone who is interested in making a difference to people’s lives. Here’s to my next ten years with Voyage!
