Overview

GIVEN THE VERY SPECIAL NEEDS of the people in our care, we provide a high ratio of staff to residents. This enables us to offer intensive, individualised support 24 hours a day. Naturally we are meticulous in the selection of our staff as their interaction and affinity with the people in their care is crucial to the service we provide.

Our selection process demands commitment, a positive attitude and relevant experience. We choose staff from diverse backgrounds who bring new and different ideas and knowledge. All are chosen for their understanding, acceptance and respect for our residents' needs. Favourable terms of service and remuneration, as well as job satisfaction, mean that our staff turnover is low, ensuring consistency and enduring relationships between staff and residents.

We have a strong commitment to staff training and never forget that our staff are our greatest asset. All our staff go through a comprehensive induction followed by further training to enable them to provide a high standard of care in all situations.

Career Study

Tina

After having children Tina decided that she had the qualities needed to work with people. She joined the care sector in 1990 as a support worker, working with the elderly in a residential/nursing home. After five years she felt she needed a change and so she spent two years working in the community experiencing the different ways that people live.

In November 1999 she joined Voyage working with people who had complex needs, learning disabilities, and challenging behaviour. In her determination to succeed Tina progressed through a number of roles in a variety of services. Now she is the registered manager of a service in Somerset.

Tina feels there is no greater achievement in life than to be able to give something back. The people she supports have the opportunity to live life to the full, having the right to be involved in every aspect of their lives.
