Supported Living/Lifestyle Support

Voyage can provide an extensive range of support solutions to enable individuals to live more independently in their own home, whether this involves a few hours of support a week or 24 hour assistance. In addition to offering day to day support, through our partners we can also offer practical assistance in helping individuals find suitable houses and apartments.

We understand that certain things are important to everyone, regardless of their disability, such as:-
  • Having their own home

  • Forming relationships

  • Seeing friends and family when they choose

  • Being free to make decisions about how to spend their time

  • Accessing jobs and work experience, and continuing their education and training

By working in partnership with individuals and those close to them we try to make sure that each person has the best opportunity to have the lifestyle they choose.

There are some national standards called the “New Reach” standards, which guide us in the way we plan and design services with individuals and their families, friends and supporters. When plans are complete we try very hard to ensure that those people who choose to use our services can answer ‘yes’ to the following standards:
  • I choose who I live with

  • I choose where I live

  • I have my own home

  • I choose how I am supported

  • I choose who supports me

  • I get good support

  • I choose my friends and relationships

  • I choose how to be healthy and safe

  • I choose how I take part in the community

  • I have the same rights and responsibilities as other citizens

  • I get help to make changes in my life

“Voyage take a person centred approach”

We regularly review person centred plans with individuals and those who support them to make sure our services continue to meet each individual’s needs and aspirations. Our staff look at things from the service users’ perspective and are always aware that they are visitors in their homes. All our support workers undertake a rigorous recruitment process, including enhanced disclosures from CRB and reference checks from last and previous employers. We also provide a comprehensive induction programme which covers all required statutory training such as First Aid, Health and Safety and Food Hygiene. We include a Learning Disability Qualification and additional service specific training, where required, such as Non Violent Crisis Intervention, Protecting Vulnerable Adults from Harm and Epilepsy Management. As a minimum, all our support workers will have, or be working towards, National Vocational Qualification at level 2 or above.

“My life has changed over the last two years. I lived in hospital for six years before I moved to Northallerton.. I didn’t like living at the hospital because it wasn’t the best place for me. I didn’t have much freedom and didn’t go out very often. I now live in a nice dormer bungalow where I am a tenant paying my own rent. I live with three nice friends who I get on with. We all muck in with the jobs that need doing around the house – some more than others! The staff help me to do things independently.”

We are happy to provide services to people whose support and/or care is purchased on their behalf by a local authority or health service, or to people who wish to purchase their support or care from us directly utilising the specific budget allocated to them, often known as an “individual budget” or a “personal budget”. We have close working relationships with purchasers, sharing relevant information and working together to focus on the service user. We are always responsive to people's needs and preferences and deliver a service that they value and we can be proud of.
