Wildlife Project Grand Opening

6th May

On 5th May, Douglas Quinn, Chief Executive of Voyage, opened phase two of the Wildlife Project at Langley House, Wiveliscombe, marking the occasion by planting a tree and releasing ducks onto the newly created lake.

The event was attended by over 150 people, including service users from 20 services in the area, parents and local people. The day was a great success, with everyone feeding and stroking the animals, being entertained by a local school choir and enjoying an outdoor lunch, all in glorious sunshine.

The project has been home to rescued battery chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs since November 2009, and these have now been joined by pygmy goats, pigs and two Bleu du Maine lambs, who are currently being hand fed.

Douglas Quinn stated that he was “immensely proud of this project”, which has already attracted over 900 visitors. Many Voyage service users visit regularly to work with the animals, attend craft sessions and enjoy the countryside. Over the coming years, as this project continues to develop, it will provide a fantastic opportunity for all service users to experience life in the country.

This is Voyage’s first Wildlife Project and joins two established farms and specialist animal centres in West Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire, and a birds of prey centre in Lincolnshire, which the company already run.
