Star tracker is a comprehensive care home rating tool which is published six times a year by specialist care sector consultants, Laing and Buisson. It utilises the “star ratings” produced as a result of the Care Quality Commission’s inspection and rating process and publishes information on all 880 plus care home groups. One key indicator is the percentage of homes rated Excellent (3 star) or Good (2 star).
In the most recent report, which is based upon October 2009 data, the top story in the report reads ‘Voyage has widened its lead over Bupa Care Homes, amongst the larger for-profit providers, as having the highest percentage of Good or Excellent rated homes in England, 91% compared with Bupa's 87%. Barchester and Craegmoor with 85% and 84% respectively are not far behind.’
However, there is even better news behind this story. Our internal information shows that we have already exceeded 95% and these figures will feed through into future reports, showing sustained improvement over the last 18 months.
