Pindar Oaks shortlisted for Pinders Healthcare Design Awards

9th Mar

We are delighted to announce that Pindar Oaks, Voyage’s first Low Secure Hospital, has made it through to the final three entries on the shortlist for the hospital category in the Pinders Healthcare Design Awards.

The awards are intended to acknowledge how quality of care can be improved through the design of the environment. The judges not only consider how successful the project has been from an architectural point of view, they also focus on how the needs of the patients have been recognised and met.

An entry pack was submitted which included details of how the project was designed to meet patients’ needs, plans of the site, photographs and information about special features and materials which were incorporated into the design. The entry was put together by representatives from the property department and development division.

The hospital will receive a certificate in honour of being shortlisted, and £500 will be donated to our chosen charity, Headway. The next stage in the process will be a site visit by the judges, which will take place in the next few months, with the winner announced at the end of March 2010.

Douglas Quinn, Chief Executive, said ‘We are delighted that our Pindar Oaks development has reached the final shortlist. A great deal of thought and planning went into the design and construction of the hospital to really maximise the benefit of the site and create an environment where people's needs can be met in a sympathetic and therapeutic way, and we have already received a great many compliments on the service.  We are looking forward to the visit by the judging panel and the announcement of the winner at the end of March.

In 2005 Voyage won the specialised care home of the year category in the Pinders Awards with Fenney Lodge in Rotherham, and in 2007 we reached the final shortlist for the specialist care home of the year with Summerfield Court, our ABI service in Leeds; on that occasion we were runners-up, so this time we hope to secure an award once again. Congratulations to everyone involved in the planning, design and delivery of the service at Pindar Oaks in getting to this stage.’
